Climate change mitigation is a core element of the Alperia Group's strategy. In line with its mission and the provisions of the Group's Articles of Association, Alperia integrates climate objectives into its strategic planning and operational activities, contributing to the region's energy transition and the creation of long-term value.

These climate commitments are implemented through both the 2026-2028 Business Plan, which includes investments aimed at achieving Net Zero by 2040, and the 2022-2027 Sustainability Plan, which defines objectives, actions and KPIs monitored annually.

Emissions Monitoring and Net Zero Targets

Alperia monitors its greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3) on an annual basis and has established reduction targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), with the ambition of achieving Net Zero by 2040.

The reductions, using 2022 as the baseline year, have been validated by the SBTi and follow a well-defined methodology that ensures the robustness of the commitments undertaken, in line with the Paris Agreement. The targets include both short-term objectives (2032) and long-term objectives (2040, achievement of Net Zero) for the main emission categories.

In particular:

  • Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions related to electricity and heat generation are expected to be reduced by 77% per MWh generated by 2032 and by 94% by 2040, compared with the 2022 baseline year.
  • Scope 1 and Scope 3 emissions related to electricity generation and sales are expected to be reduced by 78% per MWh produced and/or sold by 2032 and by 94% by 2040, compared with the 2022 baseline year.
  • Scope 3 emissions related to the use of sold fossil-fuel products (natural gas sold to and used by customers) are expected to be reduced by 50% by 2032 and by 90% by 2040, compared with 2022.

Stato di raggiungimento obiettivi al 2025:

  • With regard to the first SBTi target concerning the reduction of emissions intensity (Scope 1 and Scope 2) from electricity and heat generation activities, a value of 16.2 ktCO₂e/TWh of energy produced was recorded in 2025, in line with the pathway towards achieving the target of 12.3 ktCO₂e/TWh by 2032.
  • Concerning the second SBTi target relating to Scope 1 and Scope 3 emissions associated with electricity generation and sales, the emissions intensity of energy sold decreased from 155 ktCO₂e/TWh in the 2022 baseline year to 98.58 ktCO₂e/TWh in 2025, continuing the trajectory towards the target of 40 ktCO₂e/TWh by 2032. 
  • Regarding the third SBTi target, which concerns the reduction of Scope 3.11 emissions resulting from gas sales, emissions decreased from 990 ktCO₂e in the 2022 baseline year to 562.70 ktCO₂e in 2025. This result confirms progress towards achieving the target of 401 ktCO₂e by 2032.

Overall, all targets are on track, demonstrating the effectiveness of the measures adopted and Alperia's contribution to the energy transition and emissions reduction. The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is an international organization that assesses, verifies and approves corporate greenhouse gas emission reduction targets, ensuring that they are consistent with scientific evidence and with the objectives of the Paris Agreement.

Emissions Reduction

Alperia's decarbonisation strategy is primarily based on reducing emissions and increasing and diversifying renewable energy generation.

Key initiatives include the development of renewable energy sources, improving the energy efficiency of assets, electrification of consumption, reducing the use of natural gas, promoting sustainable mobility, and innovating the energy services offered to customers and local communities.

These initiatives are complemented by information and awareness-raising activities aimed at customers and employees to encourage behaviour consistent with decarbonisation objectives. Through these actions, the Group contributes to the energy transition and to the achievement of its medium- and long-term climate objectives.

Reporting and Transparency

Climate performance and progress towards decarbonisation targets are reported annually in the Alperia Group's Consolidated Financial Statements, prepared in accordance with the requirements of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS).

The published information is subject to independent verification through a Limited Assurance engagement carried out by the external auditor, ensuring the reliability and transparency of the data disclosed to stakeholders.
